Why are Domestic Energy Assessors needed?
The need for an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) stems from the EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive which requires that all properties sold or let must have an EPC. This directive must be complied with by January 2009, at the latest, and it continues to be implemented in Northern Ireland, England and Wales during 2008.
Home Information Packs and DEA home assessment commence from 1 August 2007. After this deadline any home with four or more bedrooms, and 3 bedroom homes from 10 September, from 14 December 2007 1& 2 bed properties.
